Here's a picture of a N.Y.C.T.A. Bus that I used a screenshot and cropping just to see if it works. Good advice James...it works! Now I know how to steal pictures from a site that doesn't allow people to steal pictures. I could never understand that. I have a Bronx Nostalgia web site full of pictures and I couldn'r care les who lifts pictures off of my site. I made the site for all Bronxites to enjoy and use for their viewing pleasure. If other Bronxites create web sites for nostalgic purposes, why would they object to people hot linking their pictures?

Glad to hear I started you down a path of internet "criminal" activity Lenny... LOL
I think the issue is that people want to feel special about being the one-place to get that cool picture... If someone can get it anywhere, i ruins the "special-ness" of their particular site...
I'm sure the picture takers would also like to be credited with their pix too... thats why a lot of my pictures have the Lantern-Media.com water-stamped on them -- its free advertising for me if people swipe em... But then again, I'm not a professional photographer... I think Peg Leg could add a lot more to that discussion than i could...
For me, if its to a small group of people, it's ok to copy pix... But once it goes beyond that small group, it starts going into the grey area...

Hey Mike, please don't take my word as law -- this was just my unofficial take on it... You may have more or less "fair use" rights than what I posted...

IMO, if you don't use it for commercial purposes (including a "for fee" website) you should be ok. If the copyright holder objects, you would have to remove it. It would be best to ask the owner before using it, and giving credit. I'm not a professional, but would be annoyed if someone just swiped my photos for their use on a website, without asking permission or giving credit. Of course, the photos I post on Flickr are greatly reduced in resolution from the originals. If asked, I would probably give them the original resolution photos. If you just wanted the photo for your own collection, I can't see a problem. But I'm not a pro, nor am I a lawyer, so ..... just my opinion, FWIW. Pruitt would be a better source.

Pegleg, you're just one sale away from being professional with the quality of your pics Glad I was in the ballpark - I'm more versed in the linking directly to the photographers pics -- If your link produces a lot of traffic to the photographers site, that could cost them money in bandwidth overage charges... Again, small traffic, it should be ok...
